Description

These Fried Goat Cheese Balls feature a crispy panko and fresh thyme coating with a creamy, tangy goat cheese center. A delicious appetizer for parties, holidays, and entertaining, served warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz goat cheese log
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh thyme
  • 1 qt canola oil

Instructions

  1. Divide the chilled goat cheese into small, evenly sized portions and shape each portion into a ball.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the all purpose flour, garlic powder, and kosher salt.
  3. In a second bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
  4. In a third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and minced fresh thyme.
  5. Roll each goat cheese ball in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess.
  6. Dip each ball into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the thyme panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the crumbs adhere.
  7. Pour the canola oil into a deep, heavy-bottomed pot and heat to approximately 350°F.
  8. Carefully fry the cheese balls in small batches until golden brown and crispy, turning gently as needed.
  9. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate.
  10. Allow the oil to return to temperature between batches. Serve the cheese balls warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Keep the goat cheese chilled while shaping and breading to help the balls hold their shape.
  • Ensure each ball is completely coated to prevent the cheese from leaking during frying.
  • Fry in small batches to maintain the oil temperature and achieve a crisp coating.
